It was nice to finally have a day with nothing to do and nowhere to drive.  We were free to just relax and play--and we all LOVED it!  The hotel fed the typical "hot" breakfast that many hotels provide now days.  (weak at best--but all the kids really need is a bowl of cereal and they are good to go--and they had good options on cereals).  Abby was excited to go to her "activity" group.  They all got free t-shirts and decorated sand pails and did some fish art.  Nothing fancy but she had a good time.  While she was there, the rest of us hit the beach for some body surfing.  Bryan is not a sit on the sand kind of guy. He likes waves and something to do.  The water was great but the lifeguards were beyond cautious.  The rule is that you can only go 50 yards out in the water, or waist level, whichever comes first.  Seriously??  We were constantly getting "whistled" by the lifeguard with him waving us in and signaling "waist level."  My backyard swimming pool is deeper than waist level.  We did our best to just ignore him and kept moving farther down the beach out of their view.  But other lifeguards had the same rule.  Bryan thought it was a joke and by the end of the day, he was finished with South Carolina.  They have cops EVERYWHERE!  (The worst though was Savannah, GA.....there was a cop car there for every mile of roadway).  And then you had the "beach cops" stopping you from fully getting in the water.  The family still managed to have fun body surfing and caught some great waves. Abby finished with the group and joined us in the ocean. She loves body surfing as well  (what can I say....they are all Caffreys).  The lifeguards also cleared the water for a while for a "shark" sighting.  Not sure how real that was, or just who it was who spotted the shark.  But after 15 minutes or so, everyone was back in the water.

We came in for a break and headed to lunch at Margaritaville (suggested by the concierge).  That place is another cash cow.  It is part of a big entertainment area, so it was fun to walk around, and the food was good.  But overpriced and I have a problem with the whole concept of a restaurant centered around drinking.
Back in the ocean in the late afternoon but the wind had picked up and waves were bigger. Life guards now required you to be only knee deep.  That was the final straw for Bryan. We elected to just swim in the lazy river with Abygail until the lifeguard went off duty.  Then we had the ocean to ourselves!  Finally. The kids favorite thing was swinging in the hammock at night on the beach with the cool ocean breeze.  It was relaxing, peaceful, and perfect.  We ended the night with krispy kreme donuts (Bryan can't drive past when the "hot" sign is on)

Last thoughts on the hotel:
Towels, oh the number of towels.  I feel bad for the amount of laundry we generated!  I think we went through 60 beach towels in our one full day.  Everytime we went out to the ocean or pool or showered we grabbed fresh soft towels.  Thank you Hamptons!!
