We have arrived in Galveston.  It was a LOOONG drive but the kids did GREAT!! They slept and listened to Bryan's audio book.  We stopped in San Antonio Texas to see the Alamo and the Riverwalk.  It was muggy and warm but they don't seem to notice.  They just go about sweating. The landscaping around the alamo was luscious and green with a gorgeous tree (my kids know I love great trees and clouds). It looked nothing like it did when the mexicans attacked.  The riverwalk was eautiful and unique.  It looked like Disneyland with a bunch of restaurants. Bryan wished we had more time to hang out and enjoy it, but this was just a quick stop in our long day of driving.  We decided to get dinner in Houston and kept looking for something near the freeway for an easy stop. We were hoping to stop at a place called Pappa's BBQ for some authentic texan food, but when we pulled up at 9:10 pm, they had just closed.  As a result, by default, we ended up eating next door at a place called James Coney Island.  It was fitting for James' birthday dinner.  We all actually LOVED the food!  Of course, maybe we were just extra hungry since we hadn't eaten since McDonalds breakfat in Las Cruces NM.  Bryan had a burger smoothered in chili and thought it was fabulous.  The buttermilk battered onion rings were an absolute favorite for everyone!  The last little stretch from Houston to Galveston went super quick and we crossed the bridge onto Galveston Island in the dark of night, the same way we started our trip 17 hours earlier.
We checked into the Best Western Plus right on the beach.  2 queen beds plus a couch pull out bed meant everyone had a place to snuggle down for the night.  finally! The fun begins tomorrow!
