We spent the night in a hotel near the area where Bryan was born so we could start our morning seeing all the Caffrey family locations.  Our first stop was the house where Bryan was born and lived for the first 6 years of his life.  Then we stopped by a store to buy flowers and took them to the cemetery to put on the graves of Lynnford Caffrey and Amelia White Caffrey (Bryan's grandparents). We pulled into the cemetery and no one was at the front office to tell us where they were buried.  Bryan drove into the middle area and pulled over and told James to get out and start looking around because he thought we were close.  About 10 seconds later, James yelled that he found them.  Also buried next to them are Isaiah Baker White and Whilemena Keisel White (Amelia's parents). Next we went to find great grandma White's home to take some pictures of it.  It is a beautiful brick home in a gorgeous neighborhood.  The  kids were very impressed!  They wanted to know why great great grandpa had a nicer/bigger house then we have. We were outside taking pictures when the homeowner came out the door.  I told him what we were doing there and why we were taking pictures and he was so nice he invited us to come inside and see the house. It was fantastic!  We told him it was our great great grandfather who had lived there in about 1916 and he asked if he was the bootlegger.  We called Aunt Cassey and she told us some stories of her memories of playing at "grandma White's house".  Bryan had her on speaker phone and the homeowners loved hearing some of the memories of the house. We took a lot of pictures and Bryan was so sad that Grandpa Jim wasn't with us to share his memories and see it all for himself.  They had done some beautiful renovations, but it was mostly the same.  Original wood floors, a quaint light on the stairwell banister that was obviously original, and beautiful front doors that a contractor who helped them redo the kitchen offered them $10,000 for the doors and they turned him down.  We went down in the basement where Aunt Cassey says they gathered and played shuffleboard.  Bryan loved that they referred to grandpa White as the bootlegger--he sold alcohol and cigars.
Next we went and saw Grandpa Jim's home where he was born and raised.  After that we went and saw the house on White Horse Pike Rd.  It is now a law office and on our last visit to Philly the man who owns the building allowed us to come and walk through it, but it was a Saturday and nobody was there this time. We drove into Philly and went to the Fishtown neighborhood to find the grave of Mary Caffrey (again...another tender mercy/miracle is that we found her headstone immediately).  Bryan couldn't quit gushing how this was the perfect day.  By the end of the day he was giddy/happy. He said it could not have been any more perfect!  It is definitely his favorite part of the whole trip.  I don't know if anything else will surpass this for Bryan.  He loved showing his kids their history and talking with them about his memories.

Of course we went to Reading Terminal. Annie  was really excited about showing this to James and Abby since she has been here with Grandpa Jim.  She really missed him and eating food there with him.  Annie is definitely a CAFFREY!  She has a lot of grandma and grandpa C flowing in her veins! Favorite thing in Reading Terminal was Miller Pretzels. Although we also ate from DiNic's and Annie just had to get Chinese food.  Termini Brothers cheesecake was GREAT!!  We would have bought a whole one if we had a way to transport it and keep it cold.  It is Bryan's favorite cheesecake EVER! Although Tricia wants him to compare it to Junior's cheesecake in New York City.  So the taste test is on.

We went and saw the Liberty Bell--the line was long, but moved really fast.  Bryan went to get us tickets for Independence Hall and none were available--they were out for the day.  He was really bummed about that, so we walked over there and (another tender mercy) they had space in the tour that was just going in, and they let us join the group.  So we got to go into Independence Hall and the kids got to see where the Declaration of Independence was written and signed.  It was especially neat since we had just SEEN them the day before in DC.  You can also see the actual chair that George Washington sat in as he chaired the Continental Congress. Once again, love the history.  We stopped by the visitor center and bought souvenirs and then we were off to the cheese shop.

How could we be in Philly and not stop by Di Bruno's to sample and buy cheese?  Grandpa C would have been proud--we managed to keep our bill to $100 (that's not a lot of cheese, but it is some GOOD cheese).  They gave us many many samples and the kids loved them all.  Annie missed grandpa again and really wised he was there with us in the cheese store.  After Di Bruno's we dropped the boys off at the gate for their front row seats to the Philly's game.  Again, it was everything Bryan dreamed it would be.  The game went into extra innings and it was LATE before they called us and told us to come pick them up.  While they were at the game us girls went and saw Maleficent at the movie theater (sketchy neighborhood at best, but I HATED driving in Philly!!!! So we stayed near the ball field).  After the movie we went to Target (home away from home) and shopped and looked and killed time.  It was after 11 pm when the boys finally called us and we needed to drive an hour and a half still to get to Tricia's house in Nazareth, PA, but we couldn't leave Philly without getting cheesesteaks first from Geno's and Pat's; and since they are open 24/7 (more cash cows) we had no problem.  Lines weren't too long and we got sandwiches from both places so we could compare--they are just across the street from each other and I think the competition is great for them both!

We finally got to Tricia's house about 1:30 am (our latest night yet) and Tricia was so kind as to have beds all made up for us. Abby was dying to see Lauren and play with her, so she was mad it was so late, but we all fell into a deep deep sleep.  Glad tomorrow is Sunday.  Bummed church is at 9 am.  Although that is good for nap taking!!
